Java, Java applets, and Java Script
are related but not the same.

Java is a high-level object-oriented programming language developed by Sun Microsystems. Java is a general purpose programming language with a number of features that make the language well suited for use on the World Wide Web.

Java applets are small Java applications that can be called and downloaded from a Web server and run on your computer by a Java- compatible Web browser, such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft's Internet Explorer (the two most popular)
Microsoft has stated that it intends to include a Java interpreter in future versions of Windows, which will enable users to execute Java applets directly from the operating system.

Java Script is a scripting language developed by Netscape to enable Web authors to design interactive sites.
Javascript can interact with HTML source code, enabling Web authors to add dynamic content to their sites.

While studying Java programming at Brock University I ran across several public domain/freeware java scripts on the internet. The next few pages are in my own opinion the best freeware scripts on the internet at this time. However, I've been know to be wrong so I've included a small index to several sites where you can cut and paste java scripts to your hearts content.

Warning

If your going to use any Java Script on your web site you should test it at least with Netscape and MicroSofts Internet Explorer browsers.
To further complicate matters both netscape and microsoft have changed the java script ability of their respective browsers hence not all of the neat tricks you use may be visible to all browsers.

Comments? Suggestions?

I take no credit for the original encoding for some of the following java scripts. They are public domain or free for personal/commercial use on a web site.
No one may/should sell these scripts without the author's consent. I have included the name of the author in the relevant encoding.
If you decide to use them on your web site. I request that you keep the acknowledgement in the encoding.

It is the least YOU can do!

Here's a handy little script from the same source that can be use on a web site to email members of an organization.

E-Mail This Person

Simply select the person you want to email in the box then click on " E-Mail This Person ". At present only the first email address is active. You can easily change the email address by editing the java script in a text editor such as note pad or my favourite Note Tab.

To view the java script for the "better marque" OR the email box

SIMPLY SAVE THIS DOCUMENT TO A FILE ON YOUR HARD DRIVE AND OPEN IT WITH A TEXT EDITOR.

The script tags contain the relevant code.
