WHAT IS THE SELF-EMPLOYMENT BENEFIT PROGRAM
(SEB)?
The Self-Employment Benefit (SEB) program is a tool to help individuals create jobs for themselves through self-employment, by providing them with various types of support and mentoring. Successful applicants will be provided with income support, business plan development and mentoring, leading them to business success.
The SEB program is funded by Employment Ontario, Ministry of Training Colleges & Universities and is co-ordinated by local Delivery Agents.
The Business Development Centre of Greater Fort Erie (BDC) delivers this program to the residents of Greater Fort Erie.
Eligibility:
You may qualify for this program if you are currently unemployed and:
- Are in receipt of, or eligible to receive Employment Insurance Benefits (EI) or;
- Have established a claim in the past 36 months or;
- Have had a maternity or parental claim within the past five years after which you remained out of the labour market to care for your child and are now seeking to re-enter the labour force.

WHAT IS THE SELF-EMPLOYMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
(SED)?
This program allows unemployed individuals, receiving income support
through Community Services Social Assistance & Employment Opportunities,
to create jobs for themselves through self-employment.
It provides self-assessment guidance to determine entrepreneurial
readiness, business plan development and mentoring to successful
applicants throughout the duration of the program.
