2003 Track Rallies

CAYUGA CANCELLED!

Due to insufficient registrations, we have cancelled our Sept 6, 7 track weekend at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga.

We regret any inconvenience the cancellation has caused.

NEW RESTRICTIONS AT CAYUGA: The local municipal government has further restricted operations at Cayuga by imposing a 20 vehicle per session rule.

CAYUGA PRICES (cdn/US):$270.00/$200.00 per weekend, $160.00/$120.00 Saturday, $125.00/120.00 Sunday

FOUR CLASSES: We will be running four rider groups (classes), 20 riders per class at Cayuga.

U.S. EXCHANGE RATE: In order to offer a fair exchange rate to our American customers, we’re going to revue the U.S. prices on the 1st, and 15th of each month, and change the prices if necessary. The published price will be good for registrations received up to the next revue date. To print the registration form, click on Registration on the header bar, and print. Fill it out using the prices above (also posted in the Fees section), and mail in with your cheque/money order. You can also submit the registration form we mailed you with the altered prices posted here.

NEW RULES: As stated last year, a hard shell back protector will be required this year. It can be separate, or built into the suit, but you won’t get on the track without one. NO DOGS! We have experienced a track shut down at another event because BOWSER got loose, and we don’t want our customers to share a similar experience. NO PIT BIKES AT CAYUGA! Last year some jerk on a minibike nearly caused about 4 accidents as he zipped around the hot pit while bikes were exiting the track. If we’d caught the guy, we’d have thrown him, and his rider out. NO WHEELIES, NO STOPPIES ON TRACK OR IN THE PITS! This will be strictly enforced this year. First offense, you sit out a session. Repeat offenders will lose their riding priviledges.

NOTE RE. BACK PROTECTORS: We encountered a hard foam back protector at the Ducati Club meet at Mosport. It was made of a very hard foam about ¾” (20mm) thick. It was deemed acceptable, and we will accept this type as well.

HELPFUL HINT: We had more than a few bikes fail tech because the cooling system was not completely purged of antifreeze. It usually takes 3 to 4 flushings to get all the antifreeze out. Make sure your bike will pass before coming to the track.

NOISE LEVELS:  Both Shannonville and Cayuga have noise rules. At Shannonville, the only bikes that fail are totally un-muffled. At Cayuga last year, the measurements were taken half way up the straight. All bikes except the one that shed its can passed. It looks like if  you’ve got a muffler, you’re O.K.

What is a “street legal” exhaust system? If you are using it on the street, and you haven’t a collection of excessive noise tickets, then it’s probably street legal. Most modern race bikes will likely pass, especially if the can has been repacked( use the right stuff, from a bike dealer, race shop, pipe manufacturer- not pink insulation!). Vintage race bikes with open megaphones are unlikely to pass.

FOR NEW RIDERS (For complete rules, click on Rules)
Welcome to Motorcycle Track Rallies! Rick has once again organized a weekend of riding on Toronto Motorsports Park’s road course for your enjoyment. These rallies are inspired by the Ducati Owners Club of Canada, and Bar Hogson's track rallies and are intended to provide a safe venue for participants to explore their motorcycles' capabilities.
Modern sporting motorcycles have power and handling far beyond what can safely be exploited on the street. Our track rallies allow the rider to test theirs' and their motorcycles’ abilities without the worries of on coming traffic, run away animals or any of the many unpleasant surprises found on public highways. Corner marshals and medical aid are present if needed.

You are asked to place yourself in one of four classes based on the descriptions in the Rally Rules and you own assessment of your comfort and skill level. After tech inspection and the riders meeting you are allowed out on the track, one class at a time, for 15 minute sessions. The sessions run in rotation all day long, with a one hour break for lunch.

We will conduct a brief riders school for those people who've never been on a race track before. Topics will include how to recognize an impending screw-up, collision avoidance, and track etiquette. Travelling marshals will be out in street touring to show new riders suggested lines and braking points.
Bike preparation for our track events is not elaborate, but we enforce some minimum mechanical standards to ensure safety for all of the participants. All bikes are subject to a technical inspection prior to being allowed on the track. This also applies to the rider's own protective gear.

Registration

·        Please pre-register for a track event at least two weeks prior to the event.

·        We accept volunteers to assist during track rallies, let us know.

A NOTE ON RIDER NUMBERS
The cheap and easy way to put numbers on your bike is to purchase a roll of plain white adhesive vinyl shelf liner or contact paper (brand names: MacTac, Tytac) at a dollar store, five & dime, hardware, or super drug store. Cut out three 81/2" X 11" pieces. Take a black magic marker and put your number on the vinyl in 6" high by 1" thick script. Make sure it's clear and legible. Peel off the backing paper and place them on the nose, and sides of the fairing. The vinyl is easily removed afterwards, but may not stick if the bike has a recent wax job.

·        Two Piece Leathers:
If you have two piece leathers that don't zip together, Take them to a tailor, shoemaker, or leather repair shop, and have them install a 12-15" heavy duty zipper in the back, between the pants and jacket. It works great, and shouldn't cost more than $25 (CDN).
