Ineke Brinkman came to Canada from The Netherlands in 1979. Annually she receives visitors to Canada from The Netherlands and other parts of Europe. Arranging travel to and within Canada and the United States for the Europeans has developed into a significant part of Brinkman Travel's business.
In 1997 Ingrid Raakman joined the company; coincidently Ingrid had lived in the same Dutch town of Apeldoorn as Ineke. Both ladies are continually receiving more business from the Dutch community. Their contacts with greenhouse growers and associates have led to booking many trips to The Netherlands for trade shows and other activities. The international horti fair is an exhibition in food and vegetable horticulture held in Holland each November.
In May 2000 Ineke organized her first group tour to The Netherlands. It was highlighted by festivities for the 55th anniversary of the liberation of The Netherlands by Canadian soldiers. Highlight of the 2002 group departure was a visit to the Floriade; held once every ten years. Soon we will be preparing for a group in 2012 for garden aficionados. In 2003 Brinkman Travel was the first Canadian Travel Agency employing Amadeus Waterways for a Riverboat Cruise through the Dutch and Belgian Waterways. This contact has flourished into a love affair with riverboat cruises. We did it again in 2004 and 2005. In 2005 the cruise was followed by the festivities for the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of The Netherlands. And we are going to do the same for 2010.
We invite veterans and their relatives and friends, as well as historians, students and all those with a connection to the Netherlands, to join us for the 65th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands. From May 1-10, 2010 there will be celebrations where the Dutch express their gratitude to the Canadians. Like the events in 2000 and 2005, it is going to be unforgettable! You must be there to see, feel and touch the emotions bridged between WWII and today. Of course no Brinkman Travel Group to the Netherlands is complete without visiting the Brinkman Family Equestrian Center in Twello. There you will meet with Ineke's brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces.
