Thanks to the "Not-withstanding clause" of our constitution, we have no guaranteed, protected rights. "Natural" rights don't exist for Canadians. All the rights and freedoms we enjoy are only allowed us on the whim of the government. It can and does modify and limit our freedoms as it sees fit. Our rights are constantly under attack. Our personal autonomy is decreasing all the time. The battle cry today is "The common good must prevail". No individual right or freedom will be allowed to stand in the way of "the common good". We are fast approaching the time when a decision must be made. Do we allow this continued slide into the new slavery, or do we shout "NO! Enough is enough. These are our ABSOLUTE rights, no government can take them away".
Unfortunately we have a problem in this country. Probably 90% of the people don't know or care that their freedom is in danger. All they care about is what hockey game is on this Saturday and if their cable rates are going up. That's the problem growing up in a free society: people take it for granted. They assume freedom is a right, no one will take it away. Often they don't realize freedom is gone until it's too late. I don't think it's too late yet, but the time is getting close. Every one has to look at the freedoms they have left, and the freedoms they've lost over the last twenty years or so.
I use the term slavery. It's a harsh term, but accurate. Funk and Wagnalls defines slave as "a person over whose life, liberty and property someone has absolute control". In one respect, we already are slaves. The government has an ABSOLUTE right to demand at any time a DNA sample from any citizen of Canada. If you refuse, the agents of the government will forcibly restrain you while the required sample is taken. You have no choice. In this instance, the government has an absolute right over your body. A slave could not refuse if his master wished to examine him in some way, neither can you.Great Britain also has that same law. Here is an example of what can happen in the new slave state. A young girl was raped and murdered in a small town. The police decided that because of the location of the crime it must have been committed by a local person. The police invited all the local men (in the interests of solving the crime) to provide a DNA sample. The police also made it perfectly clear that any one who didn't volunteer would be considered a suspect and a sample forcibly taken. It kind of reminds me of the Nazi's inviting the Jews to voluntarily come to the town square to discuss resettlement. Welcome to the Slave State of Great Britain. It happened there, it will happen here.
Bill C-17,(sec.48) currently before parliament extends that even further. It allows the police to examine and record any part of a persons body if it will aid in the investigation of a crime. A rapist has an unusual tattoo on his private parts? Line up the whole town and make them all drop their pants. Any one who refuses, well, you know what will happen. Drop your pants slave. The master has spoken
Can we still call ourselves free in Canada? Not any more. We are reaching the point where we are merely the property of the state. Do you care? Then you better start doing something about it, and soon.
