CANADIAN HUMAN RIGHTS
COMMISSION:
LESSONS IN PROPAGANDA

FRONT___ ___BACK

Once again the Canadian Human Rights Commission is tackling racism. Good, you say, well at first glance, yes. However, when you take a closer look, you see that as usual, the only target of their campaign is white racism.

The Canadian Human rights commission has a new interactive game on the Internet. It's called "Erasing the Hydra of Hate". What's interesting about it is the techniques it uses to mold peoples perception of Hate into the politically correct view. All the questions are either "neutral" ie no mention in any way of race, or they use whites as an example.

By using neutral examples, they create the illusion of impartiality, but with the "imprinting" of white examples, one subconsciously substitutes "white" in the neutral instances. The purpose of the game is to create the impression that the only hatred in Canada is white, and that it is perpetuated by neo-Nazi/ white supremacist groups.

The first question sets the tone for the rest of the game:

Most hate crimes are comitted by:

  1. Neo-Nazi Hate Groups
  2. Bigoted middle aged males
  3. People under 20

The correct answer is "3". 95% of all hate crimes are NOT asociated with neo-Nazi organizations. However, the idea that hate crimes have a neo-Nazi source has been planted. As well, we are told that middle-aged males are bigoted, while the true source of hate violence (youth) has no such label attached. What's also interesting, is if 95% of hate crimes are not associated with neo-Nazi activity, why is most of the rest of the test dedicated to neo-Nazi activity?

This is continues in question #2:

An upswing in hate crimes in big cities in canada has occured in the 1990's, One of the main reasons is:

  1. Skinheads are causing all the problems
  2. since jobs have become more scarce, people are targetting those they hate.
  3. there are more immigrants entering Canada
The correct answer is #2. "During bad economic times, people look for scapegoats to blame, and their main targets are people of color, Jews, and gays. This climate allows hate groups to recruit and spread their propaganda".
It says "people" look for targets, then it lists targets for "white" hatred. This combined with the skinhead choice re-inforces the impression that hatred is a white phenomenon. The mention of hate groups after the target list suggests white hate groups. This whiteness of hate is constantly reinforced.

Now we come to the first "neutral" question

Question 3: Today, racists most frequently spread their messages and propoganda by:

  1. Posting flyers on telephone poles
  2. Using the internet and computer bulletin boards
  3. Operating telephone hate lines
  4. Mailing out hate letters

The answer is #2, the internet. However, the first two questions have been "slanted", so the implied message now is that "white" racists use this medium.

While on the subject of Web hate, why not see which racist, anti-Semitic organization calls America's Independance Day THE FOURTH OF JEW-LIE.

Ironically, in theory, for merely providing this link, I could find myself charged with a human rights offence for "exposing a racial group to ridicule and comtempt". And forget about the defence of truth, it doesn't exist. If a person of the same race that produced the website is offended,

I can be charged with a human rights violation!

Question 4: white supremacist dogma says that whites should be proud of their heritage. What they really mean is:

  1. Self-respect is essential for all people
  2. "whites" must act superior to "non-whites"
  3. being proud of your color, race, religion, and sexual orientation is important

The correct answer in the game is #2. Showing the other two answers are 'wrong" suggest that whites aren't permitted the same feelings about themselves as minorities. ANY expression of "white pride" is targeted as a negative, undesirable trait. Would a white child feel uncomfortable about his background, would he feel the need to apologize before making a positive assertion about himself?

Question 5: A phone number is advertised around your neighbourhood for a recorded message supposedly to find out about your rights. When you call, the message contains vicious remarks about people of colour, immigrants and refugees. You think this message is spreading hate, so you:

  1. decide not to listen
  2. try to get more information from the group
  3. call the Canadian Human Rights Commission

Number 3 of course. The question clearly points out that this a white hate line. This question is desgned to re-inforce the notion that "white pride" is a negative trait. These two questions both try to show that "white pride" is evil and can only be expressed in an evil way. We are given examples of hate lines shut down, and of course, all white!

Question 6: Holocaust denial is a myth that white supremacists are trying to spread, particularly by using the Internet. They want to revise history; to eliminate the record that the Nazis systematically exterminated six million Jews during World War II. They argue that history should be re-written to:

  1. show they have solid proof for their theories
  2. convince youth the Holocaust is a hoax
  3. stir up anti-Semitism

Correct answer is #2 and #3. It gives the example of teacher Jim Kingstra losing his teaching job for Holocaust denial. This is yet another situation using "white" hatred as an example.

Question 7: A gang of teenagers assaults a man that they wrongly believe to be homosexual. Their crime is:

  1. a case of mistaken identity
  2. a hate crime because they thought they were attacking someone from a particular group that they hate
  3. liable to a stronger sentence than most assaults

This one has also two correct answers #2 and #3. All the previous questions have used white hatred, so now one will form a mental picture of whites (probably skinheads) beating up that guy. Again a neo-Nazi connotation.

Question 8: If you, or someone you know, was confronted by racism, anti-Semitism or homophobia, there would be no reliable and confidential way to get advice:

  1. True
  2. False

False. We are then told that many organizations exist to help, but the only ones named are Jewish, once again re-inforcing the neo-Nazi source of hatred.

Question 9: You are at your after-school job and your supervisor keeps telling you that your race is lazy. You are afraid that you will be fired. You should:

  1. talk to your supervisor
  2. file a human rights complaint if the harassment continues
  3. grin and bear it

The answer is #2. However this is a neutral question, so after the others, what color do YOU thik the supervisor is. It's probably one of those bigoted middle-aged males from question #1, and he's probably a neo-Nazi too!

The poster shown above is exactly the same, all racism is white racism. Minority racism does not exist as far as the CHRC is concerned. In the poster game, 6 of the game squares are "neutral", ie no race is determinable, the other 12 use white-supremacist/ neo-Nazi examples.

CONCLUSIONS AND COMMENTARY

This game and poster are just another blatant attempt to paint a picture of the "evil" white race and the victimized "minorities". It would have been a simple matter to substitute minority racism in a few of the questions, but then the CHRC would have been accusecd of perpetuating racist steriotypes. As well, admitting to minority racism would go against the prevailing dogma.

Can the CHRC not come up with ONE example of minority racism? It is a disgrace that the CHRC, created to promote and foster inter-racial relations has degenerated into a forum for white-bashing. This is supposed to bring Canadians closer together?

I've long felt that the anti-racism industry in this country has been directed solely against the (white) majority population. I've seen the effects of this bias locally, where local anti-racism crusaders direct ALL of their energies towards the "evil" white majority. These people will not even admit that minorities can be as racist as whites. I've read tracts published that claim ALL white people, even if they are not racist, have benefited from a racist system, and should do whatever is necessary to atone for the unfair advantages they have received in life. I've actually talked to people who are so brainwashed that they are ASHAMED to be white! They feel personally responsible for all the evils committed over the past 500 years. I take no responsibility for any acts committed by others, I can only be responsible for my own actions. Now, according to the Human Rights Commission, I can not even be "proud" of my heritage or my background. Any expression of "white pride" will earn me the neo-Nazi label. Minority children are raised and encouraged to be proud of their roots, their heritage and the accomplishments of their race. White children are taught to be ashamed. White children are taught that they are a part of a culture that has thrived and succeeded by exploiting and enslaving others. They are then taught that they must pay for the sins of their ancestors. With attitudes like these, it's no wonder young people are being drawn to racist organizations!

After viewing this poster and playing the Hydra game, I have to wonder what the different reactions would be to a Black child expressing pride in his race and heritage, and a White child.

WHAT DO YOU THINK THE REACTIONS WOULD BE?

WHO IS A RACIST IN CANADA TODAY?

The "official" status of racism in Canada today: If you, having white skin, and by virtue of your whiteness, have benefited from and received privilege by living in a racist white society, do nothing to combat racism, then YOU are a racist.
