Proposed New Law Will Allow
Police Seizure of Your Home Computer
A proposed addition to Canada's Hate Laws will give
police powers to enter your house, search your computer
hard-drive, and then seize the computer if in
their opinion it contained "hateful" material.
At first look, it seems that it is intended to attack people
creating and publishing "hateful" material, but it is much more
far reaching and insideous, it will allow the police to act as
censor for the country. We all know that the most well
know example of "hateful" material is the Zundelsite,
and we are sure that the police will be knocking on
his door first, but the law
is not concerned with who created the "hate" material.
The crime is the
possession of it on your hard drive.
This law is designed to stifle ALL freedom of speech.
With this law, it will not only be illegal to publish "hateful"
material, it will also be illegal for you to read it.
How is this possible?
Suppose for example, all the news you have heard about the
Zundelsite raises your interest, and you chose to visit the Zundelsite
just to see for yourself what all the fuss is about.
If you download any page deemed "hateful",
you are in possesion of "hate" material on YOUR hard drive.
It remains in your cache, Even if you delete your cache,
it will still be there, lurking.
The catch is, YOU don't know which pages are "hateful",
until AFTER you have downloaded them, and of course,
then it is too late, you possess "hate literature" on YOUR hard drive.
Remember, if any page deemed "hate literature" is
located on YOUR hard drive, you will be in
violation of the new hate law, and YOUR computer can be confiscated.
Knock Knock, Thought Police Calling...
It is a possible for ISP's to log and
monitor ALL websites that you visit, but that would not be necessary,
ISP's could be provied a list of websites or
individual pages to be "flagged".
If you accessed one of the flagged sites, the
authorities would be notified.
Bottom line... under this new law, view a banned site Sunday evening,
have the police
confiscate your computer Monday morning.
The new law will treat ANYONE that has "hateful" material on
their hard drive as a potential
distributor of "hate literature", so the offending
material will be confiscated before it can be distributed further.
So, for the crime of freedom of expression,
freedom to read, freedom of association, freedom of discussion, the freedom to THINK...
your computer could be seized.
Paranoid fantasy?
Do you really want to find out?
