I submitted this letter to the Standard June 29, 1995. I assume it was printed sometime in July of that year. I can't find my copy of the newspaper it is in. However I know it was printed, because Susan Howard Azzeh submitted a blistering reply. Unfortunately, upon looking through my files, I can't find her letter. However if she wants to send me a copy, I'll be glad to post it. The article I was replying to was about the disbanding of the Niagara Race Relations Council because their government funding had ended.
I read in your paper the other night that the Niagara Race Relations Council is disbanding. Why? Are their aims fulfilled? Is racism a thing of the past? Are we all living together in peace and harmony?
No! They're disbanding becasuse they ran out of government funding. I guess they only fight racism when ther's something in it for them. Perhaps the government money was the reason they started the group in the first place. Perhaps they exagerated the amount of racial discord in the region to get and maintain government funding.Say what you will about their arch-enemy the Heritage Front, at least the people in the Front do and say what they do because they believe in it, not because they're sucking on the government teat.
Maybe the people of the Race Relations Council can regroup and get government money to fight that other great threat to modern society:Purple Loosestrife.
Some people saw my comment about the Heritage Front as a sign that I am a supporter or a sympathizer. Actually, it's not true. The Heritage Front has its own agenda and beliefs, I have mine. Its possible that in some instances, my beliefs and the Fronts beliefs co- incide. Susan Howard Azzeh has identified me publically as an associate of the Heritage Front. I'd sue her, but she's not worth the trouble. Actually Ms Azzeh should consider the following proverb in considering my alleged relationship with the HF Niagara:
