LETTER RE: ANTI-RACIST ACTION(TORONTO)

I e-mailed this letter to the Toronto Star Jan. 22nd 1997. They didn't print it. I didn't think they would. I sent this letter in response to a column in the Star written by Mary Curran and printed Jan. 21st. The article was basically a fantasy piece about what a kind, gentle, peaceful place Canada is. She specifically made reference to the lack of political violence in our country. Considering all that Anti-Racist Action (Toronto) has been accused of, I just had to comment.

The letter:(Sent Jan. 22 1997, unpublished)

I just finished reading Mary Curran's article reflecting on Canada today. What a lovely fairy tale. Unfortunately, it bears little resemblance to reality. No bombs in Canada? I don't think Ernst Zundel would agree with that after the ARA(Toronto) firebombed his house. Isn't that funny, The Toronto city council gives the ARA money, the ARA builds bombs. The ARA is ready and willing to dispense "justice" to anyone who disagrees with their vision of Canada.

I myself am on the ARA "watch list" simply because I was once seen in public with Heritage Front members. I have recently started to take action against the ARA in my home town of St. Catharines, so I guess they now see me as an even bigger threat.

The ARA actually fit the criterion of a hate group as described in the Canadian Association of Police Chiefs' publication "Hate Crimes in Canada". When the ARA is recognized for what it really is and delt with accordingly, maybe we can get a little closer to Ms Curran's vision.
