A Toronto youth paid the ultimate price during the month of June 1996 in the Anti-Racist Action campaign to make Canada a kinder, gentler, more tolerant place. What was his crime? A most terrible heinous act, worse than murder or rape (neither of which carries the death penalty in this country). He was found to be wearing symbols that zealots in the ARA find offensive. Specifically, neo-Nazi regalia. Funny thing, I don't recall seeing anywhere in the Criminal Code that wearing a swastika in this country is against the law. However, in the interests of tolerance and acceptance, this youth was made to pay the ultimate price. I don't know if the ARA has ever admitted that the murderer was an ARA member, but at the very least, he took the message of the ARA at it's face value. Even if the killer wasn't an ARA member, he was acting on the message that the ARA puts out. The ARA must take at least some of the blame for this act. Their literature contributes to a climate of hatred in Toronto. What offends me so much about this act is the attitude of the ARA. They basically claim that the youth deserved his punishment. According to the ARA literature, all of their opponents deserve to die. It seems that the ARA will do ANYTHING to make Canada a safer more tolerant place. No expression of sympathy, no remorse, just glee that there is one less "neo-Nazi" on the streets. The ARA believes that their political opponents deserve any treatment the ARA deems fit to hand out.
The ARA are a dangerous criminal organization that fits the criterion of a hate group as defined in the police chiefs of Canada's report "Hate Crimes in Canada". It amazes me that these thugs are allowed into our schools to preach their brand of hatred to innocent children. Some school boards have already banned the ARA, but for some reason the Lincoln County School Board welcomes them with open arms, encouraging them to recruit and to preach their hatred in our local schools.
There is something wrong with this country when a group like the ARA is accepted and encouraged. However, hopefully this group won't be around much longer, they are under continuing investigation by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service. Immediately after the murder, CSIS was in the Niagara Region questioning any one who might have any knowledge or information about the ARA, including a certain local anti-racism activist. Sooner or later this criminal organization will be shut down, and the leaders made to pay for their crimes. When this happens, Canada WILL be a kinder, gentler, more tolerant society
You know, I never hear about the ARA attacking biker gangs that sport Nazi regalia. I wonder why?
