History Of The League

The NIAGARA DISTRICT LADIES DART LEAGUE began 14 years ago. The league started out with 10 teams and has grown to 40 teams in 1995/96, covering most of the Niagara Pennisula, stretching from St. Catharines to Port Colborne, Welland to Niagara Falls as well as the Town of Thorold.

The original format was 5 team, 5 doubles & 5 singles, gradually evolving to include the game of cricket (singles and doubles). The season begins in September and ends in February with playoffs following until the end of March. During the year the league runs several fun nights for the women, an annual Charity Shoot (mixed doubles) as well as a Memorial Tournament (ladies doubles). We are involved with The Pennisula Cup Committee which runs a weekend tournament for anyone involved in organized darts throughout the niagara pennisula serviced by our league as well as the men’s leagues.

Some of our more famous “darters” include Sharron McGean, Anne Fisher, Diane Bittles,and Helen MacCuish who have all had provincial, national and international experience. But as you look around the area now you can see that our league will have several more women competing at these higher levels.

The N.D.L.D.L. also runs a spring singles league after the regular season and playoffs have finished. It runs for approximately 12 weeks with a chicago style format. At the end of the league in late June the players are rewarded with per game win money....a semi professional format. This league has also produced several great darters.....

As well as enjoying the game of darts & the comradeship we have raised thousands of dollars for local charities such as Women’s Place, Breast Cancer Research, Youth Dart Program just to name a few.....
