LUCY ANNE FARR (10 Dec. 1831 - 15 Jan. 1913)
Lucy Anne, widow of the late John Cook, a well known and highly esteemed resident of Forks Road near Marshville, passed away there at her home on Wednesday, Jan. 15th, after a three months' illness.
Deceased, who celebrated her 80th birthday on December 10th, 1912, was the oldest of a family of fourteen. She was born near Welland, and when an infant she moved with her parents, the late Tabour and Charlotte Farr, to their farm near River Bend on the Welland River, now occupied by her brother, Tabour Farr.
At the age of twenty she married John Cook. Then they moved to Winger, spending twenty years there, where they were very prosperous. They sold their farm and moved about five miles east, where they spent the remaining years of their lives.
During her stay at Winger she united with the Disciple Church, and after leaving there she joined the Methodist Church, it being nearer her home, and she has been a faithful member to the end.
Deceased had been in failing health for the past ten years, but always was patient and had a pleasant smile, looking forward to hearing the Savour's voice, "Life's Journey is o'er."
The funeral was held on Friday afternoon from her late residence, service being conducted by the Rev. Mr. Couch of Fenwick, pastor of the Forks Road East Methodist Church.
The choir of that church also sang three of her favourite hymns. The remains were then followed to Wilson's cemeteryby a number of relatives and friends and were laid to rest in the family plot, being borne tothe tomb by her four grandsons, Elmer Marr, John Willford, Claud Beckett and Carman Cook.
The floral tributes were many, among them being a pillow with the word "Mother". The deceased leaves to mourn their loss, two sons, Augustus and Timothy of Marshville, and three daughters, Mrs. Catherine Willford of Wainfleet, and Mrs. Edward Becket and Mrs. Wesley Springer, both of Hamilton, also twenty grand-children and thirteen great-grand-children, four brothes and five sisters. Her husband, one son, one daughter, and one brother and three sisters pre-deceased her.
CATHERINE COOK m. Robert Willford
Beckett's Bridge, Dec. 16--A life-long resident of Wainfleet township passed away at her home on Monday, December 8th. She was the beloved wife of Robert Willford, who pre-deceased her manyears ago. She had been in failing health for some time and had been confined to her bed for a week before she died.
Mrs. Willford, who was 74 years of age, was married 50 years ago and spent her entire married life in the home from which she passed to her reward. She leaves to mourn two daughter, Mrs. Leslie Robbins of Beckett's Bridge and Mrs. Robert Simpson of Welland and three sons, Seth and James of Welland and John of the old homestead, also 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Beckett of Hamilton and Mrs. Springer of California, and two brothers, Timothy of Bridgeburg and Augustus of Wellandport.
A large number of relatives and friends met to pay their last tribute of respect to her memory.
The funeral was held from her late home on Wednesday, December 10th, at 2 o'clock. Rev. Walter Corrie Almack of Forks Road East United Church, of which she was a member, preached the funeral sermon. The quartette sang, "Does Jesus Care." The lovely flowers bore a silent testimony of the devotion of those left behind. The pall-bearers were grandsons of the deceased--Orland and Lawrence Robbins, Clarence, Arnold, and Seth Willford, and Robert Simpson. Interment at Dawdy's cemetery.
