Scouting on the Web

Introduction

A few years ago when I started back up with Scouting I was introduced to a few Newsgroups, Listserves and Web Sites that had to do with Scouting.

The Scouting movement was started by Robert Baden-Powell. He based it on the cadet corps of local boys that he created when he was defending the town of Mafeking in South Africa.

When he wrote the book "Scouting for Boys" he had no idea that he would be creating another organization. Boy Scouts of Canada was incorporated by an Act of Parliament on June 12, 1914. To learn more about BP's life please read B.P.'s Life in PicturesorBaden-Powell:The Man who Lived Twice by Mary Drewwery or Baden-Powell's book Scouting for Boys.
You can go to your computer and get information about maps or knots for that evenings meeting or weekends hike.

Every aspect of Scouting is covered on the net, there are discussion lists so you can ask questions of knowledgeable Leaders across the country, Web sites to visit and use to help your program, Links to make to your new Scouting friends around the world. It is nothing for me to carry on a conversation with friends from the Toronto area, West Coast, East Coast, the UK and New Guinnea all at the same time and a lot cheaper than the phone.
