The Official Rally Guide and Rule Book

NEW RULE: BACK PROTECTORS REQUIRED!

General Rules

It is the responsibility of each participant to be fully aware of the rules and guidelines that follow.

1. All riders must read and understand the event waiver form, and then fill out and sign the registration form and waivers  prior to participating.

2. All entrants must attend the riders meeting, no exceptions. WHINING is not permitted!

3. Participants must not tamper with any of the markings, or tags. For example wristbands, registration stickers, or tech inspection tags.

4. No pets, motorized pit bikes or motocross bikes are allowed.

5. All motorcycles must be in top mechanical condition and pass a technical inspection prior to being allowed on the track. ALL crashed motorcycles must be re-inspected before being allowed back on the track.

6. Your "rider" number must be displayed on the front and sides of your bike for the track rallies. Preferred colours are black numbers on a white background, although racing bikes may retain their class colour combination. Numerals must be at least 6" by 1" wide and will be displayed on a plain solid background approximately 8+ by 11". (These are the most commonly used sizes.) If you have not requested a number, one will be assigned to you.

7. All riders must wear appropriate leather riding gear suitable for the racetrack. This includes two-piece suits which must zipper fasten together (no duct tape allowed). Footwear and hand protection must be specifically designed for motorcycle use. Helmets must be full-faced, be DOT or SNELL approved, of recent design, be in good condition and fit the wearer properly. Some form of hard shell or hard foam back protector is required (e.g. Dainese)

8. Riders will not consume mind-altering substances, or anything that could impair their ability to operate a motorcycle safely prior to riding. Anyone caught breaking this rule will not be permitted to ride for the remainder of the day.

9. Anyone allowing an unregistered person to ride their bike on the track will also lose their privileges for the remainder of the weekend.

10. If for any reason you lose control of your motorcycle, on or off the track, and cause another rider to go down, you again will lose all riding privileges for the remainder of the day. All situations will be assessed accordingly. Wheelies, brakies etc. are NOT allowed.

11. Never ride opposite to the direction of traffic, including paddock and pit areas.

12. All track riding will stop when the track is closed. No driving (ALL vehicles) on the track without track management, or event organizers permission.

13. Event happens rain or shine. Credit will only be issued if cancellation is received 14 days prior to the event. No credit for lousy weather, and other strange phenomena.

14. All decisions made by the event organizers are final. All participants will agree to abide by these decisions during the rally.

15. Oil drain must be safety wired or covered with silicon.

16. Street legal exhaust systems only, no open, or unmuffled exhaust pipes.

Registration

Pre registration for the rallies ends 2 weeks prior to the events. Telephone registrations, and registering at the gate will be on a first come, first served basis. Neither guarantees that a position will be available. Pre register to avoid any disappointments. When registering you must choose one of the four classes available. The four classes are: Street Touring, Touring, Fast touring, and Hot shoe.

Street touring is for new or less experienced track riders, and riders interested in a safe non threatening track ride. Passing will not be permitted in corners.

Touring class is for the average street rider who enjoys a spirited ride, but is not ready to go road racing yet.

Fast touring: This class is for experienced track riders who can turn good lap times, but are not interested in pushing it as hard as the Hot shoes do.

Hot Shoe is open to all racers and equally fast non-racers. This group is very fast, and tends to get quite competitive despite our non-race program, as if you didn't know.

Once you have chosen the class that best suits you, you are not held to it all weekend. We will allow class changes to accommodate rider ability, providing there is space available. Talk to the registrar to change classes.

The registration center at the track will be open from 6pm until dark on Friday night for any early birds, and will then reopen Saturday morning at 7:30am sharp. While at registration please advise us of any medical conditions we should be made aware of, just in case. No sense giving you pain killers if it will kill you! Once you have registered you may take your bike to tech inspection.

Riders Meeting

All registered participants planning on riding must attend the riders meeting, which are held each morning before the track is opened. Registration will be closed temporarily during this time. And to make life a little more interesting a random roll call will be held by the registrar.

Riders meetings are held to prepare and advise riders of track procedures in effect for each day of rallying. Topics covered will include: pit lane procedures, entering and exiting the track, track safety, marshaling and a quick run down of the flags. We will then take this opportunity to discuss and hopefully resolve any outstanding concerns that you may have. All constructive input will be welcomed.

Flags & Flag Rules

Yellow

Held stationary - indicates a potentially dangerous situation on or near the track. Use caution ahead.  Example: A stopped rider.

Waved - indicates danger immediately ahead, slow down and DO NOT PASS other riders until you have passed the occurrence. Example: A fallen rider or riders.

Red & Yellow Striped

This flag indicates debris or fluids (oils/brake/gas) on the track ahead. Whenever possible the marshal will point the flag at the offending material, or area. A sweeping motion with the flag indicates a line of fluid throughout the curve. Slowing down is usually wise.

Black

Will be displayed by the starter. If the flag is pointed at you, then the marshals have reported a problem with either your bike (mechanically) or your riding style. Cautiously check your bike over to ensure you are not endangering current track conditions, then proceed to the pit lane and report to the club official. Bikes with unreadable numbers, and riders with long hair not tucked into their helmet/leathers will be black flagged.

If the problem is mechanical, (especially leaking fluids or smoking) please pull off the track as quickly and safely as possible.

Red

Indicates a serious problem requiring a shut down. For example: An ambulance request or radio failure. DO NOT STOP IMMEDIATELY! CAREFULLY slowdown and stop at the next marshal station. Do not  form a road block. Choose the side of the track where the marshal is and stay to that side. Once the situation is clear the marshal will signal you to proceed to the pits.

Checkered

This indicates your track session is over, and you are to slow down and proceed with a 'cool down' lap to get back to the pits. If you have a back seat and rear foot pegs, signal and pick up stranded riders. Be aware of riders behind you, and use common sense when parading back to the pit area.

Tech Inspection

The track tech inspection is very brief and looks only for the most obvious faults. It is up to you as the bikes owner/rider to ensure there is oil in the engine, all filler and drain plugs are tight, and the engine and other components aren't about to fail. We require you to maintain your motorcycle in top shape, thoroughly examine its mechanical condition prior to each session and provide whatever maintenance and/or repairs necessary before participating in the event.

Our inspection checklist will consist of the following:

* Your Helmet.

* Tires have sufficient tread for the event , are inflated and were not manufactured prior to the 100 years war (Good tires are cheap insurance, ask around for what works).

* We will check brakes for action, but you are responsible for their mechanical and functional soundness. Do they work!?

* All fluids (gas, brake, forks, radiator, engine, battery) must not be leaking. NOTE: Only water, or water with water wetter is allowed in water-cooled bikes. Ethylene glycol (antifreeze) is extremely slick and will not be permitted. Propylene glycol based coolants are not allowed (e.g. Evans brand). Please expose the rad cap of the bike for tech inspection.  WE CHECK EVERY BIKE FOR ANTI-FREEZE!

* We will check brake bolts, axle nuts, pinch bolts, steering head bearings, handle bars and even spokes.

* We will now allow side stands to remain on modern  bikes. Side, and centre stands of older, or vintage bikes must be removed if requested by the tech inspectors. Bring exceptions up to tech inspectors.

* Check to see that the throttle doesn't stick.

* Swing arm bushings, rear axle, chain and adjusters, plus suspension components will be checked.

* All lenses, glass and speedometer must be taped over for safety.

The inspectors ask you not to bring hot (engine temp) bikes for inspection. If it can't be avoided, please warn the inspector beforehand.

BE SAFE, HAVE FUN !
